There seems to be a misguided notion out there in the Land of Living, that when a woman gives birth she understands how to parent.
Tis no more different for men who become fathers. They don’t have a clue how to parent and kinda amble along and (hopefully) learn how be a parent to their child.
I was the same way.
When they placed my firstborn child on my belly, moments after she was born, I remember feeling completely overwhelmed, and the first thought that popped into my head was, ‘Shit. What the heck do I do now?’
That was a terrifying moment for me as I had just realized that not only was I responsible for me but now I had another person who would be shaped by my decisions and efforts.
Fast forward 28 years and I can tell you that children were born equipped to rule the world and they survive despite our failings as human beings.
