an interesting dilemma

The American actress, Christina Applegate was diagnosed with breast cancer and she made the decision to have a double mastectomy. She is cancer free.

Bit of history required...Christina's mum had breast cancer once, then twice and there is a history of breast cancer in her family so she made the decision to have both breasts removed.

I agree with her decision.

I would have both teats lopped off if diagnosed with breast cancer. I'm not defined by my boobs and wouldn't give a second thought to it.

Thoughts?

I would never welcome any operation and would be more concerned by the anaesthetic risk and perhaps the risk of MRSA than by the thought of losing my breasts, although I do like the old girls.

  I have had more anaesthetic than the average and it's a dreadful shock to the body. Takes a long time to recover from it.

  And working in the business she does where breasts are so important. I admire her courage to come forward.

I wouldn't like to have anything chopped off, but would consent to that if there was a guarantee that the cancer was contained. I would not have chemo though. If I have to go, I want to go peacefully and painlessly and that's Ok .

I hope that I never have to make that decision.

My cousin was faced once with a similar dilemma. To carry the unexpected foetus they found when they found the cancer and die, or to have the hysterectomy there and then. She chose the surgery. Her man walked out the door and never came back - left her to cope with the whole thing herself. Helluva choice.

A friend received confirmation of a lump, and chose not to have the op. She said she would rather die. Her boobs. Her choice. Fortunately it wasn't cancer.
